After years of pursuing their own paths, three childhood friends reunited for a proper night out.
They thought, why not turn our old horse trailer into a mobile bar and fill it with spirits made from all-natural ingredients?
After much research and experimentation, The Drunken Horse Gin was born.
After a proper night out in Antwerp, we looked at our old horse trailer and thought, "Why not! Why not turn it into a mobile bar and make our own spirits?"
The idea was intoxicating, but reality sobered us quickly... we were spirits novices, let alone gin connoisseurs!
So, we headed to Portobello Road in London, the epicentre of gin culture, where our journey into the world of spirits truly began...
By chance, we met a Dutch engineer with a vision to create his own still.
He questioned, "Why are so many distillers still using technology from 200 years ago?" Driven by this curiosity, he designed a modern still.
Trusting his innovation, we decided to purchase the 21st century still.
We began experimenting with the still to craft our own recipe, aiming for a citrus-forward gin with a peppery finish.
We started with fresh peels of pink grapefruit, lime, and lemongrass, and added cardamom and coriander seeds for earthy undertones.
While our gin was super-smooth and citric, it needed more depth. From our learnings in London, we knew that peppers could provide the body we were looking for...
In our quest for the perfect pepper blend, we discovered the Timut Pepper, a rare spice from the Himalayan hills.
This intriguing pepper, with its citrusy notes reminiscent of grapefruit, lime, passion fruit, and jasmine, became the key to our recipe.
Combined with two other peppers, the Timut Pepper brought our vision to life, and The Drunken Horse Gin was born.
With our medals in hand, we visited "The Jane," a two-Michelin star restaurant in Antwerp. The sommelier sampled our gin and praised its three flavor waves: citric, earthy, and spicy, noting how the Timut pepper seamlessly bridges the spicy and citric notes. Impressed, he purchased 60 bottles, which inspired us to share our gin with the world.
Our goal is for everyone to experience our beloved gin at least once.
